Manitoba's Regions

Manitoba's landscape is as enchanting as it is diverse, with prairie grassland in the south and west, rugged Canadian Shield lakes and forests in the east and north, and arctic coastline and tundra in the extreme north.

Regions

Manitoba is divided into eight main regions - choose from the menu below to explore each unique area of the province.

Winnipeg

Winnipeg is the capital city of Manitoba. Home to over 700,000 people, the city is where the Red and Assiniboine rivers meet.

Central Plains

Beginning at the western edge of Winnipeg, the Central Plains region includes the town of Portage la Prairie.

Eastern

This region begins east of Winnipeg, covering a long stretch of the Manitoba/Ontario border including the Whiteshell Provincial Park.

Interlake

This region stretches from the northern edge of Winnipeg and between Lake Winnipeg and Lake Manitoba, and includes Hecla, Gimli and more.

North of 53

Manitoba’s largest region includes the town of Churchill, the northern border with Nunavut, and Hudson’s Bay.

Parkland

This western region of Manitoba includes both the Duck Mountain Provincial Park and Riding Mountain National Park.

Pembina Valley

Spanning the area southwest of Winnipeg, the area includes towns like Carman, Morden, Winkler, Morris and Emerson.

Western

This southwestern area is home to the city of Brandon, and borders both the United States and Saskatchewan.
