You'll get your wilderness fill in spades on this three-day getaway - camping, geocaching, hiking, swimming, and more. Satiate your civilized side while golfing or relaxing at a resort while you're at it.
Drive west from Winnipeg on the Trans Canada Highway for 160 kilometres, then turn south at Highway 5 and drive for 20 kilometres until you get to Spruce Woods Provincial Park.
Setup camp at
Kiche Manitou Campground. Reserve your spot through the Manitoba Parks Campground reservation system.
Hike out to
Steels Ferry Overlook (located next to Springridge Trail) and have a picnic lunch while taking in the panoramic views of the valley.
Hike back to camp, grab your swimsuit and spend the afternoon splashing around in the lake.
Get changed and try a covered wagon tour of the
Devils Punch Bowl on the Spirit Sands trails.
Head back to camp for a bonfire dinner under the stars.
Start your day early with a geocaching adventure - the
park's visitor centre has all the details and equipment. You might even see some local wildlife along the way - black bear, elk, deer and moose all live in the park. Pack a lunch and eat in the wild.
Call ahead to book a tee time and play 18 holes at
Clear Lake Golf Course.
Stay for dinner at the Heritage Club House Restaurant, overlooking the 9th green.
Finally, finish your evening down at
the Marina with an evening cruise (or on a paddle boat, canoe or kayak) exploring beautiful Clear Lake before heading back to Winnipeg.
